In my case, painting has been a lifelong intermittent journey, until I became a member of the Ballarat Society of Artists in 2003. I’m captivated by the beauty of colour, shape, light and shade and love experimenting with different media. Oil and Watercolour are my favourites and I try to paint the essence of a scene without slavishly reproducing it. The hours fly by when I’m immersed in painting in my preferred style of “alla prima”.
I was thrilled to win the Harry Munt Memorial Medal and then a Highly Commended at the Ballarat Show Art Show in 2011, but I am even more delighted when fellow artists buy my work.
Lately I’ve created a popular range of small, quirky ‘Woolly Creatures’ (©) by needle-felting natural fleece wool. Creating three-dimensional wool figures is exciting and rewarding as each emerges with its unique personality. A true fusion of art and craft.
