Velislav Georgiev is a Bulgarian-born Australian visual artist whose practice is characterised by a deep engagement with others and a broad artistic reach. His work spans public art commissions, gallery installations, traditional sculpture, furniture design, painting, and architectural features. Georgiev’s commitment to creating meaningful, accessible art that enriches “third places” such as parks, gardens, streetscapes, and playgrounds is evident in his numerous community collaborations and public art projects.

Georgiev’s collaborations with other artists, designers, and local communities have resulted in over 30 public art commissions, including landmark sculptures and play structures across Australia.

His architectural work is an integral part of his practice. He creates site-specific designs for gates, balconies, doors, and handrails, working collaboratively with architects, designers, and private clients. His approach involves starting with an indicative concept and refining it into something unique, always with the goal of enhancing particular landscapes and buildings. Georgiev utilizes time-proven materials that require minimum maintenance, ensuring his designs are both beautiful, practical and long lasting.

Beyond his own practice, Georgiev has made significant contributions to the arts community. He established an International Artist/Designer-in-Residence program, curated exhibitions involving artists from Bulgaria, Australia, and Singapore, and organized the participation of Australian artists in international events. This commitment to fostering artistic exchange and collaboration further cements Georgiev’s role as a multifaceted and influential figure in the visual arts.
