Peter Macdonald Watercolour Artist

Peter is a self-taught, traditional artist who likes the realistic style of painting and drawing. He has become well known for his portrayal of the Clydesdale and other “Heavy Horses”, and dogs. His painting style brings his subjects to life, but is not a slave to fine detail. Born in Wigston, England. The eldest of five children. His father was serving in the army, and the family often had to pack up and move with him to his new posting. He shared an interest in photography with his father, and spent many hours in their makeshift dark room developing and printing photographs taken during their travels. Peter left England when he was sixteen and moved to Australia with help of the Big Brother movement. His first few years in Australia were spent on the land working as a jackeroo around the Yass and Queanbeyan areas of New South Wales. He spent some time at Lanyon Station, which is now an historic property. He eventually moved south to Victoria, where he met and married Lyn, his wife of over 50 years. And together raised two sons. When the grandchildren started to arrive, Peter started painting cartoon characters for them. This got him started in watercolour.
Peter and Lyn now enjoy the country life. He now works from his home/studio located in Ballarat, Victoria,
