Production Team Members required for new play in Daylesford

What is on offer?

Hollow – a drama, Written & Directed by Megan Riedl and Produced by Tripwire Theatre Inc. Performed from June 30 – July 2, 2017 at the Daylesford Town Hall.

This project will commemorate a major milestone anniversary of a tragic event. The event in 1867, where three boys went missing in the bush around Daylesford, was significant in the way it brought the fledgling community together. The story endures in the region, with memorial cairns near the boys home and where they were eventually found some months later. Their likely route has been turned into a 15km bush walk which draws many visitors to the region. Local historians have the desire to increase awareness of both the 1867 event, and to promote an interest in local history among residents and visitors to the region.

On this 150th anniversary year, the play – a world premiere original work by Central Victorian playwright Megan Riedl – will be performed on the same day the boys went missing.

The play is about hollow promises. Using the true story of the three lost children as background, it explores how those in positions of power, with the means to make promises, are inherently less likely to keep them. Does power equal insincerity? This play investigates how the marginalised are used as pawns – intentionally and inadvertently – in other’s games of power. The scenario of missing children heightens the almost universally experienced grief of motherhood in the harsh 1860s landscape. The Indigenous understanding of grief and the land is weighed against the misunderstanding and fear of the very landscape that seems to prey upon the white man’s children.
