About the Artist
I’m Scott Fredericks. I was born in Corowa, NSW in 1972 and now live in Ballarat, Victoria with my partner and two children.
In 1993 as a 21 year old I received my first camera. It is only recently that I have stopped to reflect that 2014 is another 21 years on, it’s now been half my life that I have observed and framed my visual world through the viewfinder of a camera. After going back and sorting through boxes, slides, negs, prints and now digital files I have decided that its time that I put my work out into the world and embark on the adventure of sharing my photographs.
My photographs are considered snapshots that intentionally document the ordinary. My objective is to create images that I find engaging and not take or recreate notions of classic photo images. I find inspiration in unintentional patterns and the often random geometry that can be found in natural and manmade structures, the symmetry of a street sign or road marking or just the way that something interrupts the landscape. It can be objects left abandoned, left piled, stacked or just situations that I find interesting. For me these ordinary things are worthy subject matter.
It is these shapes, colours, light and quirks that feel as though they have become part of who I am.
There is nothing really profound or extraordinary about these images. They are simply just my reaction to the places I’ve been, things I’ve seen and some of the people I’ve met along the way.
Feel free to drop me a line.
I hope there is something here you enjoy.
