Retro:Activism – Exhibition For Change

12/02/2014 @ 10:00 am - 23/03/2014 @ 5:00 pm

Free

RETRO:ACTIVISM – Exhibition For Change is a collection of works by prolific illustrator Ben Sanders, touching on themes such as slavery, consumerism, climate change and activism. With a style reminiscent of mid-century artists such as Herve Morvan and Miloslav Sasek, Sanders’ work takes an insightful yet straightforward look at the issues affecting the globe today. Works on display were originally published in The Wall Street Journal, Colombia Journalism Review, Australian Geographic, and Australian Financial Review/BOSS Magazine.

The exhibition will also feature work from Ben’s first children’s book “I’ve An Uncle Ivan”. Released in April 2013, the book has already been shortlisted for the AOI illustration awards in the UK.

The Sanders Family are raising funds in order to volunteer with Pioneers in South America. They will be based in the Bolivian Andes for the next two years, where Ben will record his adventures on his blog. Ben will be using his illustration skills for an indigenous children’s curriculum, and his wife Juelz is seeking to use her experience working with women who are victims of family violence. Their two children, Ruby and Max, will be mixing with kids their own age at a Spanish-speaking local school.

Artist talk followed by official opening on Sunday 2nd March at 2.30pm. Free.
