FREEMarcia King – Anything can happen if you let it
21.12.2012 – 17.1.2013
Officially opening on Saturday 12th of January 2013 – 3 to 5pm
Red Brick Gallery – 216 Skipton Street Ballarat 3350
From December 21 to January 17, Marcia King will be exhibiting at Red Brick Gallery.
The exhibition has been titled ‘Anything can happen if you let it’ for many reasons. It encapsulates the actual show concept. A concept that will see Marcia attempt to draw all pieces for the show during the duration of the show, no work will be done before the doors open on the 21st. This title also sums up the last two years for Marcia and ties in with her departure from the Red Brick Gallery team.
“I’ve always dreamed of opening a gallery and never thought it would happen. It seemed a dream out of reach. Even if you had asked me 2 and a half years ago if I would ever open a gallery I wouldn’t have believed it possible, but it was possible and it is true “Anything can happen if you let it”. Although I am sadly at a point that I have to leave Red Brick to follow other dreams, I leave proud of Red Brick and what Steph Wallace and I have been able to achieve and create. Fear not though, Red Brick lives on with the other half of this duo still able to stay on and keep Red Brick running. This makes me very happy as I love Red Brick and everything it brings to Ballarat and it’s art community.”
This exhibition is not only a challenging exhibition with a difference that will showcase Marcia’s drawing skills and really worth checking out but the opening of the show on the 12th of January will serve as a farewell to Marcia, a celebration of everything Red Brick has achieved in the last two years and a rally of positive vibes and support for Steph as she tackles a challenging task on her own (but will be awesome at it)
More about the actual show…..
On the 21st of December when the show opens, all paper on the walls will be blank. I will complete all work during the show and I will have a ‘closing’ instead of an ‘opening’. I’m hoping to complete approximately 20 – 30 pieces in this time. If this wasn’t going to be crazy enough I’ve also decided that within those 20 – 30 pieces I am going to:
– Put five pieces of paper on the walls that people can have a ‘gamble on’. For $40 you can put a red dot on a blank piece of paper on the first day and take a total gamble on what you might get.
– There will be four pieces of paper on the walls that will be commissions. These will cost $220 each and I will draw from any clear, good photo that is given to me.
– One artwork, excluding the gambles and commission pieces will be given away for free to one lucky person who attends the ‘closing’ night.
All Commission pieces have been nabbed already (eeek…freaking out lol) but if you want a Gamble piece you will need to be the first in through door on Friday the 21.12.2012 at 10am, make payment and get that red dot on that piece of paper. If you can’t get here in person you’ll need to call and make payment with a credit card over the phone. Then cross yo-self like a pretzel that I draw something you actually want ;).
This could be a complete disaster but a total fun disaster at the same time. I get a few weeks to draw as much as I can, leaving little room for error and hopefully creating something that people actually want! I really wanted to push myself and the creative process to a different level, confront my own fears and expectations of myself and see what’s possible in such a short time frame.
The official ‘Closing’ will be on Saturday the 12th of January 2013 from 3 – 5pm.
Save the date, I really hope to see you there
Regards – Marcia King
