Holding heaven and Earth Together – Trentham Words in Winter

In May this year, if you were in Trentham for Spudfest, you might have seen a pair of disreputable itinerants gracing the streets of that fair town. Reg and Charlie are staging a comeback in this years Words in Winter in a show called, “Holding Heaven and Earth Together”, at the Trentham Neighbourhood Centre which depicts the life of a couple of spud diggers out of Trentham’s tatee growing past. Charlie, ex vaudevillian and slightly crazy person, sings songs to the trees about some of his legendary spud digging mates, while Reg deals with the more immediate issue of lighting his pipe. The stories and the characters are based on the collected anecdotes and research of the Trentham Historical Society and the show, written by Peter Fernon, employs drama, data projection, shadow puppetry, poetry and song to weave its tale. Reg and Charlie are also known as John McLaren and Peter Fernon respectively, while Castlemaine pianist Charles Affleck accompanies on keyboards and Trentham’s own Emma Pryse also known as Mrs Tati will be operating the puppets.
