Historic Brim Brim garden opening in Buninyong for October festival weekend
27 October, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 28 October, 2018 @ 4:30 pm$8.00
Open Gardens Victoria will open the Arts and Crafts style garden at Brim Brim as part of the Buninyong Festival on the weekend of the 27th & 28th October.
The five-acre gardens at Brim Brim surround an historic gold-rush homestead built in 1859. The gardens have been added to and enhanced by a succession of owners, including current owners Jeremy and Sue Glassel who continue to develop it with their team of gardeners.
Visitors should look out for several historically significant trees, planted in the 1890s by previous owner Dr John Salmon, a member of the Buninyong Horticultural Society. Examples include two enormous and magnificent Atlantic Cedar trees (Cedrus atlanticus) flanking the front of the house, the Bunya Bunya Pine (Araucaria bidwillii) on the northern boundary and the Cypress and Moreton Bay Fig on the eastern boundary.
The opening at Brim Brim coincides with the Buninyong Festival weekend. On Sunday 28th October three other gardens will open in nearby Yuille Street as part of the festival. Other activities include a fair, craft and food market, art exhibition by local artists and a ‘car boot’ stall at the local primary school.
