Exquisite paintings in oil by Finnish born artist Ritva Voutila. Voutila is a world recognised Children’s Book Illustrator whose fifty plus book commissions have been published by some of the world’s most prestigious publishing houses, including Allen & Unwin and Little Hare. Voutila now calls Ballarat her home, and Gallery on Sturt is delighted to present this exhibition which blends Voutila’s exquisitely rendered doll and childlike figures and faces with abstract, sometimes mosaic-like backgrounds. Beautiful enough to be European icons, Voutila’s work stands alone in her ability to capture the thoughtful moods of her beautiful, sometimes fantastical subjects.
