From North to South

4 May, 2013 @ 2:00 pm - 31 May, 2013 @ 5:30 pm

Free

Fairbanks Eye Gallery showcases the work of Tamara Bekier.

Born in Russia, her odyssey began during the Second World War when she was taken to Germany and confronted with experiences no child should have to witness. During this time she was subjected to medical experiments, cold, hunger and unimaginable degradation. The humiliation of that time has left its legacy and Tamara’s need to paint instinctively about the displaced, the dispossessed and the plight of women. More often than not her inspiration is drawn from a memory of fear, human endurance and, above all, human kindness.

An accomplished, mature artist, Tamara has held exhibitions extensively throughout Australia, has been recognised by peers through numerous art awards, and has her work represented in private collections all over the world.

‘The circle of my life is closing fast. I feel that my recent works, finally, reflect my long and tumultuous journey.’
