Christina Green CD Launch with Lunar Dust Gust Artists
29/09/2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Come on down for a good gig – full of folkey,bluesy,alt-country originals and covers. Christina Green – Melbourne composer, songwriter is launching her new CD “Some Days Life I can Live” Double CD.
Christina Green is a Melbourne-based songwriter, composer and performer and multi-instrumentalist
who is active in both the folk/acoustic and contemporary classical contexts. Featuring polished lyrics,
strong images and storytelling and nuanced guitar/ukulele accompaniments, Christina’s songs tell
stories of people and events that have inspired her, and bring together politics, spirituality, quirky
vignettes and tales, and personal stories with emotional layers. A sense of place also features in many
of her songs, which capture the essence of things and convey the richness of the everyday, drawing on
vivid images and styles ranging from folk-rock and punk to cabaret/chanson.
Inspired by French popular chanson, the chanson-style songs of Canadian folk artists Kate and Anna
McGarrigle, various songs and artists in the activist songwriter tradition, such as Woody Guthrie,
Andy Irvine and Si Kahn, as well as folk/rock/acoustic singer-songwriter/guitarists including Ferron,
Tiddas, Indigo Girls and Patty Larkin, and by the guitar playing of folk artists including John
Renbourn, she has been writing and performing continuously since 1989.
Christina writes: ‘My songs tell stories of people and events that have inspired or moved me, and
bring together politics, spirituality, quirky everyday vignettes and tales, and personal stories with
emotional layers. Place also features in many of my songs. I try to capture the essence of things, and
to convey the richness of the everyday, using vivid images and a broad musical palette. I work from a
desire to bring stories to others, and, in the words of British folk singer-songwriter Rory McLeod, a
desire to keep memory alive. As a performer I am more committed than ever to connecting and
communicating with audiences in live performance as a balance to the many hours of solitary work
and the scattered communities that we are now living with.’
