Beneath The Surface – The Floating World of Paul Anthony presents paintings & drawings inspired by the mysterious underwater world found in the Ewan and Picaninnie Ponds of South Australia. Deep pthalo blues and undulating forms define this primordial world, speaking of a time when the survival of all lifeforms was bound by water and light. Anthony’s work also illustrate the transience of life: the potential realities of climate change, rising sea levels, and groundwater extraction lend a sense of urgency in capturing this strange parallel world before it disappears forever.

Beneath The Surface opens Saturday, 6 September from 2 – 4pm in Backspace Gallery, and continues through Sunday, 14 September.
