Beating About The Bush Readings: The Many Faces of Henry Lawson
Celebrate the 100th year since the death of Henry Lawson by enjoying readings from the works of the celebrated poet, short-story writer and journalist.
Henry Lawson is perhaps the best known of Australia’s ‘bush poets’ but the scope of his work was much broader than a bush balladeer. A nationalist and republican who lived most of his adult life in Sydney, Lawson championed the rights of working people in both city and country and looked to the possibility of building a new social order in Australia. He helped popularise the Australian vernacular in fiction and was a regular contributor to the nationalist paper The Bulletin.
Join local performers Jane Gaylor, Hedley Thomson and Peter Vanderkley as they explore a selection of or Lawson’s work in two separate programs.
